Walking is fundamental to urban life. It is a healthy and a pollution free form of mobility and recreation. Cities all over the world are waking up to the benefits that reducing motorised transport can have on the health and quality of their urban environments and many cities are also working to create safe walking environments.
On the other hand, Mumbai has taken a different approach while creating footpaths. Here, footpaths are created with the motto, 'Life is not easy, so should walking on footpaths be?'

In Mumbai, citizens complain about the conditions of footpaths and never use them for walking.
But for a few people who actually use them, we know how the footpaths train you for life's harder challenges.
If you wish to participate in Takeshi's castle, the footpaths prepare you for it (remember Skipping Stones?).
The rocky terrain (of the footpaths) help you in getting ready for your trek in Himalayas or Sahyadris.
The dog owners, they make sure that you don't daydream or zone out while you walk, they make sure you are always on your toes.
Bikers, who park their bikes on footpaths, make sure you learn to walk crisscross and not just linearly.
Some footpaths are also equipped with automatic sensors that spray(splash) water on you, when you feel tired walking.
